Porches
The renowned Border Oak porch was first crafted for Ben and Merry’s iconic 21st Century Cottage, which gained recognition when it was featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs back in 2003. Forming the perfect entrance to almost any house, it provides shelter as well as architectural interest.
We have a wide range of porch kits available – each bearing the same Border Oak trademark of craftsmanship, and quality and handmade in our Herefordshire workshops. They are much imitated but, in our humble opinion, never matched.
Vernacular proportions – every small detail considered
Designed by Merry’s father, John Greene, our original porch design was inspired by the lych gate of the church where Merry married Ben. It was first made, following on from John’s sketch on a scrap of paper for Ben and Merry’s first home which appeared on Grand Designs. With its distinctive curved tie beam, shaped wall plate feet and diamond mullioned side frames our porch is much mimicked but never equalled. A small but perfectly formed oak frame celebration. Practical and pretty – and ideal as a self-assembly kit.
Border Oak Porch Kit
Our range of porches incorporate different styles and sizes – from a grand entry porch to a more simple canopy porch. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is exemplary – matched by the high quality of materials.
Our porches come as self-assembly kits complete with drawings & instructions. Everything is made to order and we aim to deliver within 10-12 weeks. We may have some designs in stock, so do get in touch to place and order or for current timescales.
