Our White House Project in the pretty village of Luston on the Herefordshire/Shropshire border is a small development of six Border Oak homes. Here we catch up with how the scheme is progressing.
It’s genuinely thrilling to see four of the houses finally spring to life after a very long planning battle caused by the phosphate moratorium.
All six plots at Luston are now sold, so our project manager Paul has his hands full keeping the individual builds running to schedule, coordinating our construction teams and service providers across the site to deliver homes for our lovely clients.
As designer and builder we ensure the scheme’s overall character is maintained whilst allowing clients to tailor their home to suit them. And by using our own project manager and labour we can make sure the whole development finishes at the same time so no one’s left living next to a building site.
We use our own range of handmade bricks, clay tiles, joinery colours, weatherboarding and render mixes throughout each project, which helps unify the scheme and keeps material and detailing standards consistently high. But every home still feels genuinely its own – the designs are bespoke, and each house draws on the client’s own specification from the agreed site palette. Some are faced in brick externally with weatherboarded ‘extensions’, others are rendered or weatherboarded but share brick highlights across the design. All the plots have good-sized oak-framed outbuildings too.
We also carry out the shared landscaping, which really finishes the scheme beautifully, this is typically native hedging, grassy verges, local gravel, cobbles and chestnut paling.
