Classical Craftsmanship

This incredible family home is a celebration of traditional British craftsmanship and vernacular architecture, but crafted for 21st Century life.

The authentic green oak structural frame has been married with handmade bricks and roof tiles, leaded light windows in oak casements and oak weatherboard, echoing the tradition of oak framed manor houses found across the English countryside, designed and built to last and making a significant contribution to the legacy of domestic architecture.

Transforming a brownfield site into a verdant setting, restoring and repairing the land and views whilst creating a beautiful home of character and detail.

The authentic oak frame, made by hand in our Herefordshire workshop using medieval carpentry methods, forms both the primary structure and the main aesthetic. It is traditionally styled, with arched braces, large chamber joists, secondary ceiling joists and a variety of different vaults with visible oak pegs.

The large rooms are perfectly balanced between open plan and private, with the transition spaces also being as carefully considered as the rooms – hallways, corridors, landings and vestibules all add something unique as you journey through the home.

Large areas of glazing on the rear – set out to capture the restored landscape vistas – are balanced by a more traditional approach to the front. This combination works well internally and externally, framing the view and bringing in natural light, but also allowing for more intimate spaces including a home cinema and more formal sitting room.
